Now it is time for me to start thinking about designing screens inside the autonomous vehicle/taxi. I am a little scared as, unlike the other projects I have done far; such as travel apps or banking, I have little to no idea what the screen design inside of a car should look like. Therefore, I first made a mood board on Figma and gathered some general ideas about car screen designs.

Mood boards

For my mood board, I took pictures from both the internet and the Figma community.

Admittedly I didn't think too much about the pictures that I put into my mood board; I simply chose the ones that I liked the looks of. However, when I completed the board, I realized that I had unconsciously gravitated toward a certain style;

• Quite a futuristic/very modern style, very much influenced by the fact that autonomous vehicles will be a futuristic invention.
• modern and sleek sans serif typefaces
• in terms of the colour scheme, I really like the dark background paired with neon green or neon blue for accenting. I think the neon will stand out from the dark background really well and adds a futuristic touch.

The screens inside my dad’s car

The next thing I did was to have a look at the screen inside my dad’s car, which I found to be also futuristic looking with a black background and clean icons/typeface. Before this project, I have never taken the time to appreciate the designs inside my dad’s car. However, as I’m taking the photos for later referencing, I’m spotting little details that have been implemented for better usability, such as the sparing use of the accenting colour to really highlight the important informations.
