Our second project for IXD301 is to design interfaces that enable users to interact with future fully autonomous vehicles.
The futuristic nature of this project means that it can be difficult when thinking about what kind of functions and interactions will be required for the screens of future autonomous vehicles.
Therefore, before we go off and start to work on our individual ideas, the class came together to gather ideas on what features users might want from a fully autonomous vehicle. We wrote down our ideas on sticky notes and placed them on a whiteboard;
Later on the same whiteboard, Dr. Kyle wrote down some of the main overarching features such as - navigation, payment, safety, entertainment, etc. Then we sorted our ideas into each of these feature categories.
This class excise gave me some really good ideas, such as using a mobile app when calling the vehicle and being able to watch movies in the car. I’ll discuss these ideas in more detail in my later blogs.
Next, I had to practice making a user journey storyboard for the autonomous vehicle. This is my first time making a proper user journey storyboard, and I was excited to try it out.
