At the start of week 2, I re-presented my app idea and the initial prototype to my teacher Kyle. After he approved my app's functionalities and design, he took a particular interest in the allergy warning function of my app.
Dr Kyle told me that the idea of a futuristic app being able to warn people from live threatening allergies was in itself a very interesting concept which is more unique and niche than a calorie tracking app, and that I could push my app to be more creative by redirecting my focus.
I was a little worried about how I was going to go about this change, as the app had to be ready for class presentation and critique in a week's time.
After some more discussion with Dr. Kyle, we confirmed that the basic main function of the app stays the same - the smartwatch app scans food and then with the help of smart A. I recognise the food, but now instead of looking for calories and tracking calories, it will look out and warn people of allergies.
After class, even though I wanted to go right back to Figma to do more prototyping, I decided to do some future research into allergies. I’m glad that I did, because looking into allergy further not only gave me new ideas for my app, but it also gave me good insights into the users that I'm designing for.
From research, I saw that on a bigger scale, there are a lot of people with dietary requirements which allergies are just a part of. Some of the most common include;
