Initial Logo research

Having decided on a name for my app, the last I did before starting to wireframe/prototype my app was a little branding.

Since my app is related to animals, I would like my logo to be an animal of some kind. I first did some brainstorming by researching anima/zoo logos online and gathering the ones I like in Figma;

I organised the logos in such a way that the left side is a single animal only, and the right side is logos with multiple animals.

Although I really like the logos with multiple animals, I’m not quite sure that they would be suitable for my app. From what I was taught about logos in my first year, I want a logo that is simple because;

  1. simple logo is often more memorable and recognisable
  2. simple logo reduces visual clutter. Therefore it is probably going to look better when the user views it through a smaller app screen.

While multiple animal logos can be made simple as well; It takes much more time and tweaking to make them look simple compared to just a single animal. Also, I think I would have a hard time deciding which animals to include in the logo.

With this in mind, I decided that I wanted my logo to be a single animal. However, I am open to changing this decision if I find that later on single animal logo doesn't work for my brand or get some good ideas for multiple animal logos.

The next step is to determine what animal I want to represent my logo. As this is a charity app, I want the animal to be either really compassionate/loving in order to get the message of the app across or really cute and endangered ( eg. WWF’s Panda ) in order to gain user sympathy.

In order to gain some inspiration, I managed to find and read a book on animals by the BBC;
