As I’m applying for placement this year, our teacher suggested that it would be helpful to research design companies and try to understand better what kind of companies we would like to work for.

In this blog, I’ll quickly discuss some of the companies I looked into and liked. There is a lot I liked about each of the companies I'm going to talk about, but I’ll try to only state 1 or 2 things that really stood out to me.

1) Deep

Deep is a design agency based in London. What attracted me to this company is that they combine a strong focus of branding/visuals and UX in their work

Personally, the sense of fun and creativity is conveyed to me through their design work, from unorthodox music labels to pension charities and insurance groups. Deep is willing to accept design challenges from a wide range of clients with vastly different exceptions and target users. Despite having many different types of clients, Deep’s designs all feel fresh, up-to-date, and unique.

Deep is hugely passionate about their work through how they stress “story-telling”. I remember this word was mentioned quite a few times in my IXD103 branding module. While a lot of other companies I research focused on advertising “innovations” and “strategies”, the fact that Deep focused on storytelling shows me that they care about the people they are designing for and designs with empathy to find understanding for the user and their situations

2) Spotless

What I really liked about spotless is their focus on research and user testing. One of the reasons why I decided to study interaction design was because it contained user investigations and takes a broader approach to understand the interaction between a user and a product.
